Paradigm Shifts in Computing:
Mainframe, Enterprise, Cloud, and What’s Next

From the advent of business computing with mainframes to today’s modern cloud- native scale-out applications, we cover the historical shifts in computing and show how we got to where we are today. What defines these major eras in computing, how do they differ from each other, and why has there been a clear evolution from dependence on hardware to dependence on software for resiliency and high availability? We speculate on what a fourth computing transformation might look like. What comes after Cloud Computing?

This ultimate online event, “Adapt or Die: Disruption in IT Eras”, that will help you understand the evolution of computing, discusses the three major architectural paradigm shifts in computing, how we went from Mainframe to Enterprise to Cloud Computing and explore what’s the next phase of cloud technology trends.

We are excited to welcome our world-class cloud computing pioneer and NIPA Cloud newest member, Randy Bias! Randy, declared a top 10 cloud computing pioneer by InformationWeek and digital influencer by Forbes, and Dr. Abhisak Chulya (CEO & Founder of NIPA Cloud), a pioneer of cloud technology in Thailand as a host.

Mr. Randy Bias

Our presenter, Randy Bias, was the first to articulate the technological and cultural drivers that defined the success of hyperscale cloud as a segment of the global IT spend. He correctly identified the 30-year megatrend shifts from mainframe to client/server to cloud, and in the process popularized the pets vs. cattle meme as a construct for describing the fundamental difference between how enterprise stacks and cloud stacks are managed. In the process he coined “cloud scale” or “Cloudscaling” as a descriptor for how cloud stacks differ.

Dr. Abhisak Chulya

CEO, NIPA Cloud, a pioneer of cloud technology in Thailand as a host and committed to promoting true data sovereignty for Thai businesses.

Nipa Cloud's Standards

Cloud Security Management System – CSA STAR Certification 2021
Information Security Management System – ISO/IEC 27001 : 2022
IT Service Management System – ISO/IEC 20000-1 : 2018
Management System as per ISO/IEC 29110- : 2018

Nipa Cloud's Standards

Despite its many benefits, cloud computing introduce greater complexity as well as vulnerabilities. Cloud is blurring boundaries and public cloud is black box. It’s impossible to track who accessing your data.

If you use cloud providers from US or China (Hyperscalers), you don’t really know where is your data residency.

Sovereignty means supreme authority within a territory.

How to protect digital sovereignty
from a technological point of view?

Open-Source

The software enables organizations to manage data with self-determination. Users will see for themselves that, in the software code, there is no backdoor where data flow unnoticed to third parties.

Open-Standard

Software that supports open standards will be able to integrate with any software systems. This allows companies and staff to switch software for alternative solutions at any time.

Local Cloud Adoption

Even though it is opposed to digital sovereignty, making everyone use private clouds is not the best way to utilize the cloud. The aim is to reduce a major role from foreign government agencies and make way for the local clouds.
